Spartan women win at Dubuque

The Aurora University women's hockey team kept their chances to host the first round of the upcoming Slaats Cup playoffs alive with a 5-1 win at the University of Dubuque on Friday night. Peyton Elliot and Jillian Bilsborough had a goal and assist in the first period to lift the Spartans effort early.

How it happened 
- Peyton Elliott continued to stay hot on the ice with a goal at 7:20 of the first period off a Jillian Bilsborough assist.
- With just under four minutes left in the first, Bilsborough scored what would prove to be the game winning goal. Elliott and Samira Schmidt assisted on the goal.
- AU took the 2-0 lead to intermission.
- 49 seconds into the second, Ellie Visser put AU ahead 3-0 with Zara Post assisting.
- Keilana Schmidt got in on the scoring run midway through the second at 13:39. Visser and Cara Cook had helpers.
- Dubuque scored to end the AU shutout chance late in the third.
- Visser and the Spartans collected an empty net goal with 30 seconds remaining in the contest for the 5-1 win.
- Shelbi Duster stopped 21 shots in the winning effort in goal.
