Spartans Begin NACC Play With 15-5 Victory

The Aurora University women's lacrosse team went back on the road on Wednesday, this time traveling to Concordia University Wisconsin to face off against the Falcons in each team's first conference play of the season. Olivia Dahlberg netted four goals for the Spartans, while Caley Russell collected five points on three goals and two assists to help lead AU to the 15-5 win over CUW.

How it happened
 - Olivia Dahlberg didn't waste much time giving AU an early 1-0 lead 36 seconds into the game.
- Dahlberg later took advantage of a free position opportunity for the Spartans to give them a 2-1 lead at 12:20 in the first, shortly after CUW scored their first goal of the game.
- The Falcons later took a 3-2 lead over AU at 10:21 in the opening quarter with two-straight scores.
- At 9:02 in the first, AU capitalized on another free position opportunity when Caley Russell found the back of the net to tie the score at three.
- Russell later assisted Brianna Peck at 6:11 in the first to tie the score at four after CUW took a 4-3 lead at 6:40.
- Less than a minute into the second quarter, Nicolina Smith gave AU a 5-4 lead, before Sydney Breitenstein made it 6-4 off an assist from Russell.
- Back-to-back goals from Russell and Dahlberg gave AU an 8-4 lead with just under 10 minutes to go until the half.
- Russell's score came while AU was on the advantage and it was assisted by Nicolina Smith.
- Sydney Mann made it 9-4 in favor of the Spartans just before the half off another assist from Smith.
- AU secured a power play nearing the end of the first half and took just nine seconds to score in the second half, as Kenly Axvig found the back of the net.
- At 8:37 in the third, CUW scored to trim the Spartan lead to 10-5.
- AU added one more towards the end of the third when Dahlberg scored another free position goal.
- The Spartans quickly took a 13-5 lead early in the fourth after back-to-back goals from Axvig and Russell.
- Another goal each from Peck and Axvig, one of which came on another AU woman-up advantadge, helped give the Spartans the 15-5 victory.
- Alexis Crowley finished with seven saves and just one goal allowed for the Spartans.
