Spartans Roll Past Scarlet Hawks

The Aurora University women's lacrosse team came back to Spartan Athletic Park for more Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday, with the Spartans taking on Illinois Institute of Technology. AU only allowed one goal in what was also their highest scoring total of the season in a 24-1 victory over the Scarlet Hawks, as Brianna Peck finished with nine points on seven goals and two assists for the Spartans.

How it happened
- AU started the contest with a flurry of goals, with Sydney Breitenstein, Sydney Mann, and Brianna Peck each scoring in the first minute.
- Back-to-back goals later in the first from Peck, with the first coming while AU had a woman-up, gave the Spartans a 5-0 lead with 9:45 left in the first.
- The Spartans were just getting started, as five unanswered goals helped give them a 9-0 lead with 8:09 to go in the opening frame.
- Olivia Dahlberg notched two goals during that scoring run, while Kenly Axvig, Kielly Reeve and Peck each added a score.
- Back-to-back goals from Nicolina Smith late in the first helped give AU a 12-0 lead going into the second quarter.
- Caley Russell got in on the Spartan scoring fun early in the second, before an IIT goal made it 13-1 in favor of AU with 10:36 to go until the half.
- Three unanswered goals from AU in the remainder of the second helped give them a 16-1 lead going into the halftime break.
- Peck, Russell, and Dahlberg each continued their strong days for AU with a goal.
- Back-to-back goals from Mann and Axvig gave the Spartans an 18-1 lead early in the second-half.
- Another goal from Axvig later in the third gave AU a 19-1 lead going into the final quarter of play.
- AU outscored the Scarlet Hawks 5-0 in the fourth to take the 24-1 victory.
- Rachel Wickey started in-goal for the Spartans, while the combination of Cailien Gorsuch, Meghan Ginty, and Alexis Crowley teamed up to only give up one goal to IIT.
