Spartan men survive road test with overtime win

The No. 2 Aurora University Spartan men's hockey team survived a road scare at Marian University, winning 5-4 in overtime.

How it happened
- The Spartans fell behind 1:14 into the game on a Marian goal.
- Less than three minutes later Hassan Akl tied the game up with assists from Jake Code and Jacob Brockman.
- The pesky home team took a 2-1 lead midway through the first.
- Late in the first and seconds before an AU power play expired, the Spartans struck.
- Jakson Kirk scored with the extra skater and Simon Diaz picked up the assist.
- Coming out of intermission tied 2-2, the Spartans struck for their first lead of the night.
- Jaden Davis scored with Brockman and Ryder Many Grey Horses on the assists.
- 2:30 later and on the power play again the Spartans extended the lead to two at 4-2.
- Akl scored his second of the night with assists from Juliano Santalucia and Roc Truman.
- Midway through the second and just after AU came off a power play, the Sabres scored to make the game 4-3.
- 4-3 would be the score heading to the third.
- 7:01 into the third, Marian scored to tie the contest at 4-4.
- Despite a fury of Spartan shots, the game remained tied and headed to overtime.
- Early in overtime the Spartans had to defend a power play for too many men on the ice.
- After killing off the penalty and with 41 seconds left in the overtime period, Lukas Sedlacek sent AU home happy.
- The Sedlacek goal was assisted by Jackson Hay for the AU winner.
