Spartans sweep Sabres on Alumni Day

The Aurora University baseball team hosted the Marian University Sabres on Friday, having to move the game up from Saturday due to inclement weather. AU pounced on game scoring early and held off any attempts at a comeback and took the win 7-3. In game two the Spartan bats took over and led the way to the win, 15-5 to complete the sweep.

The Basics
Game One Score: Aurora University 7 , Marian University 3
Game Two Score: Aurora University 15, Marian University 5 - 7 innings
Record: Aurora University 20-10 overall and 14-4 in the NACC, Marian University 11-16 overall, 5-10 NACC
Location: Jim Schmid Field in Montgomery, Illinois

How it happened
Game One:
- AU hopped out to an early lead when Tyler Patton sent a ball into orbit, scoring Kyle Mack with the two-run homer.
- Ryan Buck then went BACK-TO-BACK with a line drive laser over the right center fence.
- Isaac Goddard then led off the bottom of the third with a homer of his own.
- AU now led 4-0 after two innings of play.
- Marian tacked on two runs in the fifth to cut the lead in half, now 4-2.
- Later in the fifth, Buck put the ball in play to score Mack.
- Then Patton came in to score after a Sabre wild pitch.
- Scoring in the eighth were the Spartans when Zack Tarrant doubled to right scoring Matthew Washington.
- With one last push in the ninth, Marian scored once more for their third and final run of the game.
- AU takes game one 7-3.

Game Two
- Game two would have a slightly different start with Marian tallying two runs in the first.
- Answering in the bottom of the inning was AU when Patton smacked his conference leading 17th double of the year scoring Tarrant and Mack.
- The tie wasn't enough for Washington and he singled to the right side and brought in Buck and Patton.
- Scoring again in the second was AU, starting off with a Mack SAC Fly to score Joe Lukancic.
- Patton launched his second homer of the day to bring in Tarrant, AU's lead now 7-2.
- Lukancic in the third doubled in Goddard and Jaden Holgado.
- Tarrant then singled in Lukancic.
- And again it was Patton punishing a ball over the center field wall bringing around Tarrant and Mack.
- Goddard rounded out the big inning with a single to score Buck.
- The Spartan lead was now at 14-2 after three innings.
- Marian tacked on two more in the fourth to narrow the AU lead to now only ten runs.
- With concerns of weather looming, and press box tents flying away, the Sabres scored in the sixth, as of now preventing the ten-run rule.
- Kyle Mack would have none of that and sent everyone home early with a SAC fly to left scoring Lukancic.
- The Spartans completed the sweep with a 15-5 win in game two over the Sabres.
