Jason Bloomingburg joined the Aurora University men’s hockey program as Head Coach in the spring of 2016. In the winter of 2022, Bloomingburg assumed the role of Director of Hockey at AU. In this capacity he will oversee the club hockey programs while continuing in his duties as the Head Coach of the NCAA men's program.
In his short time at the helm of the Spartans, Bloomingburg has led Aurora to multiple NCHA Harris Cup playoff appearances and being ranked in the USHO weekly top 15 poll. Following the 2019-2020 season, two players in Bloomingburg's first recruiting class, Drew Doyon and Liam Stirtzinger signed professional contracts in the SPHL. Since multiple Spartans have gone on to play professionally including LA Grissom and Josh Boyko among many more.
Bloomingburg comes to AU after spending the previous four seasons as the head coach of the Florida Eels of the USPHL. In four seasons he amassed a 124-48-6 record, led the team to a pair of division titles and was the 2012-2013 USPHL Coach of the Year. He was a nominee for the same award for the 2015-2016 season.
Prior to becoming the head coach in Florida, Bloomingburg spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Texas Tornado NAHL organization. Bloomingburg has an extensive playing career which began with the Tornado hockey club where he was a captain, team MVP, NAHL MVP and First-Team All-League in 2001-2002.
He went on to play college hockey at Providence College for one season before moving on to Wayne State University. In his three seasons at Wayne State, Bloomingburg was a Hobey Baker Finalist, an assistant captain and led the team in goals scored during the 2004-2005 season. In his senior campaign of 2005-2006, he was a captain at Wayne State and wrapped up his career with 41 goals (fourth all-time) and 17 power-play goals (third all-time). Bloomingburg is received a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University.
Professionally, Bloomingburg played three seasons in the ECHL for three organizations before moving on to his coaching career.
