Aurora University and the athletic department announced the 2017-2018 recipient of the Spartan Woman of the Year Award. The honor has been bestowed upon recent AU graduate Hannah Meager.

The Spartan Woman of the Year award honors a graduating female student-athlete athletes who has exhausted her eligibility and distinguished herself throughout her collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

"Hannah Meager has worked tirelessly as a track athlete and as a student while at AU. She has held multiple campus jobs to help put herself through school while double majoring and working an internship that has helped jump start her career," said AU Associate Director of Athletics for Student-Athlete Wellbeing / Senior Woman Administrator Nicki Pieart. "She has done all this while improving each year in the thrower's ring, finishing her career as an All-American discus athlete. Hannah has much to be proud of in her time as a Spartan and she could not be more deserving of AU's Spartan of the Year."

With being the AU Woman of the Year, Hannah Meager joins a distinguished list of female student-athletes from NCAA conferences and independent schools who have nominated female student-athletes for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. These women represent college athletes spanning all three NCAA divisions.

In her four years as a Spartan in the women's track and field program, Meager was a key contributor to the four-time Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Champions in both indoor and outdoor. She earned NACC All-Conference honors nine times while capturing seven individual NACC event championships. In her senior season she was named the NACC Outdoor Championships Overall Athlete and Track Athlete of the Meet, with the Track Athlete of the Meet being a back to back occurrence. She competed in three NCAA Championship events, the 2017 outdoor, 2018 indoor and 2018 outdoor in the discus and hammer throw. She earned All-American honors as she finished third in the discus in the 2018 NCAA Championships.

In the classroom and community, Meager excelled as a double major in psychology and communication. She was the runner-up for the AU Student Worker of the Year in 2017-2018 and spent many hours serving the community through Hesed House and Feed My Starving Children.

The Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will then choose the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division. From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three honorees from each division and announces the nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year.
