Spartan women fall to Falcons 81-61

The Aurora University Spartans women's basketball team hosted the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons Saturday afternoon in Thornton Gymnasium. After battling for the lead early on, the Falcons were able to build a lead that proved to be insurmountable for the Spartans. The Spartans eventually fell to Concordia Wisconsin by a score of 81-61.
 
Concordia opened up the scoring with a three point play by junior Katie Luethe just 17 seconds into the game. With two more quick baskets to Aurora's one, they were up 7-2 with 18:11 left in the first half. Aurora fought back and climbed within two points of the lead on three occasions over the next 4:30 of play.
 
The Falcons then began to pull away with the lead by putting together a 11-3 run. This put the score at 25-15 with just over nine minutes to play in the half.
 
Concordia's hot shooting and good defense allowed for them to extend this lead to 14 points by the end of the half. The teams headed to the locker rooms with a score of 46-32.
 
The second half opened with another streak by Concordia. They outscored Aurora 8-1 in the opening four minutes to extend their lead to 21.
 
AU continued to battle but they were just outmatched by the opposing players. Concordia went on to win by a score of 81-61.
 
This loss brings the Spartans to 5-10 on the season and 2-6 in the Northern Athletics Conference. AU will take on the Eagles of Benedictine University on Wednesday, January 16th at 7:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
