AU men's lacrosse rolls to sixth straight win

The Aurora University Spartans men's lacrosse team hosted the Hawks of Huntingdon College on Wednesday afternoon. After getting ahead early, the Spartans protected the lead and came out with their

sixth straight win, a 15-8 victory.

Spartan junior long-stick midfielder Spencer Fuqua opened up the scoring with a missile that blew by the Huntingdon goalie just under three minutes into the game. Aurora scored the next three goals to establish a 4-0 lead early in the second quarter.

Huntingdon stopped the AU scoring streak with a goal just under two minutes into the second quarter. However, Aurora had an answer of their own with two goals in the next 1:11 of play. Sophomore Danny Loyall scored off an assist from junior Garret Rosiek and then Rosiek found the back of the net off a Jordan Williams assist.

Later in the second, the Hawks scored two goals within 19 seconds of each other to make the score 6-3, still favoring the Spartans. The score would remain unchanged for the remainder of the first half. AU

Aurora began the second half strong with five straight goals, three of which came on man-up situations. Williams tallied two during this run, the second of which completed his hat trick. This 5-0 run made the score 11-3.

The Hawks cut into the lead, scoring four of the next six goals which put the score at 13-7 with 9:40 left in the fourth quarter. This late surge was held off by the Spartans who tightened up their defense for the rest of the way. Aurora went on to win, extending their streak to six games in a row.

Three Spartans recorded hat tricks on the day: sophomore Max Obriecht (four goals with one assist), Williams (three and one assist), and Rosiek (three). Rosiek also recorded five assists to total eight points on the day.

On the defensive side of things, Fuqua led the Spartans with six caused turnovers and added five ground balls. Junior Jack Barry caused four turnovers, collected seven ground balls and scored two goals. Junior goalkeeper Adam Holka played solid between the pipes recording 10 saves on 18 shots, making numerous qualities saves.

With the win, the Spartans increase their record to 6-3 overall. They will be in action again on Wednesday, April 3 on Vago Field at 4:00 pm as they host Elmhurst College.
