Box Score The Aurora University men's lacrosse team kept their undefeated Midwest Lacrosse Conference record in tact
Thursday afternoon against Concordia University - Wisconsin with a 12-10 victory.
AU junior
Garret Rosiek was able to make the first tally on the scoreboard just 2:47 into the game to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
But the visiting Falcons were able to answer as they scored three unanswered goals in just 2:04 to take a 3-1 lead, stunning the home Spartan crowd.
Spartan junior
Jack Barry stopped that Falcon run with 1:27 to play in the first quarter to close the gap to 3-2. However, CU-W was able to push the lead back to 4-2 before the quarter came to a close.
AU junior
Pat Diorka opened up the second quarter with a goal of his own just 57 seconds in to make it 4-3.
From here the Falcons went on to score three more consecutive goals to take a four goal advantage over the Spartans at 7-3, forcing Head Coach
Kylor Berkman to call a timeout.
Whatever Berkman said during that timeout got to his players as AU closed out the half with five consecutive goals to take the lead 8-7 going into the half. The goals during the AU run came courtesy of
The Spartans picked up right where they left off with the start of the third quarter as
Zachary Olsen scoring a man up goal and
Justin Bose scoring the only two goals of the period to make the score 10-7.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Falcons made one last charge as another 3-0 run saw them tie the game up at 10-10 with 5:34 to play.
However, the Spartans would not be denied victory as AU closed out the game as Obriecht scored his
second goal of the day and the eventual game winner at the 4:49 mark. Schoessel also was able to tally his second of the day with 3:19 remaining to close out the game and give the Spartans the 12-10 win.
The Spartans were led offensively by Rosiek with four points (one goal, three assists), Diorka with three points (three goals), Williams with three points (one goal, two assists). Defensively AU was anchored by
Spencer Fuqua with eight cause turnovers and 11 ground balls and
Adam Holka with six saves in goal.
Despite the close final score on the scoreboard, the Spartans dominated the statisitcal categories including going 16-of-26 in faceoffs with Obriecht being 12-of-21.
With the win, AU is now 9-3 overall, winners of nine straight and 6-0 in the MLC. AU will be in action again when they travel to Benedictine University in Midwest Lacrosse Conference match-up on Wednesday, April 17. The game is schedule to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
