Spartan women win Cougar Invite in impressive fashion

Canaday won two events and set an AU record in the 200 meter
The Aurora University Spartan women's Track and Field competed on Friday, April 19th at the Cougar Invitational. AU finished first overall in team points with an impressive 230.5, beating the second-place team by 94 points. “Although there were not a lot of teams here today, our girls came and took care of business,” said head coach Ryan Chapman.

Aurora University record. Canaday also won the 400 with a time of 1:00.78. “Liz continues to be on a tear here,” said Chapman.

Junior Anna Perkowski won the 1500 meters with a time of 5:10.70. Junior Brit March followed Perkowski in second with a time of 5:13.11. “Our women's distance runners are close and continue to push one another,” said Taylor Magdich, who would finish fourth.

Freshman Jenna Taylor won the high jump with a final mark of 1.50 meters. Fellow Spartans Rebecca Rod, Alisha Oseguera, Ciara Marlow, and Elise Hinson all tied for second with final marks of 1.40 meters. “Our jumpers basically swept the competition today,” said Chapman.

Freshman Talia Sheedlo won the triple jump with a final distance of 10.28 meters. Senior Lauren Miller finished second with a final distance of 9.91 meters. Sheedlo also won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.50 seconds. Joining Sheedlo was sophomore Kaylee Swearingen in second.

The freshman Marlow later finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:28.57.

Next action for the Spartan women's track and field team comes on Friday, April 26 at the Twilight Invitational hosted by Benedictine University. Meet time is set for 3 PM in Lisle, Ill.
