Spartans douse Inferno 3-0 in volleyball

The Aurora University volleyball team made quick work of Alverno College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match up Wednesday night in Thornton Gymnasium. AU won 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-18).

AU jumped out to a quick advantage in the contest winning the opening set 25-12. The second set did not come as easy for the Spartans who found themselves trail early in the set before storming back for the 25-20 win. In the third and final set of the night, AU again found themselves in a tight contest early on. But as they had done early in the night, the Spartans went on the offensive finishing with the 25-18 win.

Spartan sophomore Peyton McKenzie led AU with 13 kills and three aces, Lexi O'Boyle had 19 assists, Andrea Kappelman had 15 digs, Katie Olsen had 10 digs and four Spartans (Alexis Hammond, Brooke Pylant, Lindsey Wille and Mikayla O'Brien) had five kills each.

With the win, AU is now 13-5 overall and 1-1 in the NACC, having won 9 of their last 10. Next action for the Spartan volleyball team comes on Friday, September 26 when they play in the IIAC-NACC Challenge at Wisconsin Lutheran College. AU will take on University of Dubuque (3:00 p.m.) and Buena Vista University (7:00 p.m.) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
