The Aurora University softball team returned north from the program's annual spring break trip to central Florida and the Spartans hold a 5-3 in the eight games played in the PFC Athletics Spring Games.
After opening the trip with a 3-1 mark, the Spartans went 2-2 in the final four games with wins over Johnson & Wales University (12-0) and College of St. Benedict (6-2) while losing to John Carroll University (4-3) and Alvernia University (5-2).
Over the first eight games, AU is hitting .319 with a team earned run average of 2.11. On the defensive end, the Spartans have committed eight errors in 49-2/3 innings. Senior pitcher
Natalie Zanella is 3-1 with a 1.97 earned run average and junior
Vanessa Hartzell is 2-2 with a 2.33 earned run average.
Offensively the Spartans are led by
Logan Cahill (.444, 12 for 27 with a home run, three doubles, five runs batted in and five runs scored),
Amie Raynor (.429, 9 for 21 with a home run, triple, two doubles, six runs scored and eight runs batted in) and
Vanessa Wegner (.429, 6 for 14 with one home run, two doubles, four runs batted in and three runs scored).
Next scheduled action for the Spartan softball team comes on
Thursday, March 19, 2015 when they play host Wheaton College. Game one of the non-conference doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m.
