Before winning the first game of the 2015 season on the field on Saturday afternoon on Vago Field, the Aurora University football program was winning off the field. Members of the Spartan football team took time away from the classroom and game preparation to spend time with some friends of the program.
The Spartans went to Association for Individual Development (AID) and played a mock football game and interacted with the residents on Friday, September 25.
When AU hosted Millikin University on Saturday, September 26, a group from AID returned the favor and were in the stands to take in the Spartans first win of the season.
The relationship between the AU football team and AID began last season with the Spartans attending a tailgate event at the AID facility.
For 54 years the AID has provided services to individuals who have developmental, physical and/or mental disabilities, those who have suffered a trauma or those at risk.
