Spartan women back to .500 with win over Inferno

The Aurora University Spartan women's basketball team was hot from the field on Wednesday night as they were able to extinguish the visiting Inferno of Alverno College 83-72.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartan women never traveled as Julie Galauner hit a three to get the scoring started early in the contest.
- AU led by six on numerous occasions in the first quarter but could not get that next basket or stop to expand the lead further.
- The Spartans led 22-16 following a 5-0 run to end the first quarter.
- AU built a 13 point lead midway through the second quarter on an Adriana Ramirez jumper.
- Alverno though responded with a 9-0 run to cut the AU lead to 34-30 with 1:42 to go in the opening half.
- Five points from Kylie Kaylor and a basket from Bri Hall in the final 1:30 gave AU a 41-30 halftime lead.
- The third quarter saw the Spartans maintain a double-digit advantage and with 3:53 to go, the Spartans had a 20-point lead (58-38), the largest of the game.
- The pesky Inferno would not be extinguished easily though as they cut the lead back to 13 before AU's Alyssa Brems hit a three before the end of the period.
- AU led 63-47 after three quarters of play.
- AU continued to maintain a double-digit lead but much like the third quarter, Alverno would not go away, getting to within 11 (81-70) with 1:08 to go in the game.
- The Spartans would seal the game though and won 83-72.
 
FOR THE SPARTANS
- Head Coach Brittany Carper won her 50th game as coach of the Spartans
- Julia Galauner had 24 points, four assists and four rebounds.
- Adriana Ramirez had 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field, eight rebounds and four assists.
- Bri Hall had 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting off the bench.
