- The Spartans dominated the shooting totals in the first half but as the game approached the final minutes of the opening period the game remained scoreless.
- In the 42nd minute, AU struck. Jake Lysik made a run down the left side and sent a cross to the front of the CUW net. The Lysik pass found
Henry Zehnal who buried a shot to the back of the Falcon net for a 1-0 AU lead.
