Spartans sweep Sunday doubleheader with Sabres

The Aurora University Spartan softball team hosted Marian University Sunday afternoon for a conference doubleheader matchup. The doubleheader originally scheduled at Marian University was moved to Bedrosian Stadium with the Sabres serving as the home team. The Spartans dominated game one, winning 10-1 (5 inn) and game two 4-3.

How it happened
 GAME ONE 
- The Spartans got on the board in the first with four runs off two hits and two Sabres errors.
- Josephine Lytton started the inning with a lead off walk. Jemma Fiehweg followed, reaching on a Sabres error.
- With no outs and runners on first and second, Ashley Talaga laid down a sac bunt to advance the runners. Lexi Rayborn singled through the left side to score Lytton and Fiehweg and the Spartans took a 2-0 led.
- Spartan Delilah Aguirre drove in Rayborn on a double to right center and would later take advantage of a Sabres error that gave AU the 4-0 lead. 
- The Sabres would score their only run of the game in the bottom of the first.
- The Spartans added five runs in the second with RBI singles coming from Rayborn and Aguirre.
- Alex Thiel would score the final Spartan run of the game in the fifth on a single from Taylyr Crocilla to make it 10-1 AU.
- Spartan pitcher Hannah Tomasko and her AU defense kept the Sabres off scoreboard after the first, allowing just three hits.

How it happened
GAME TWO
- AU would score one in the first on a Lexi Rayborn double, scoring Fiehweg.
- The Sabres would tie the game in the bottom of the third on a homerun to left field.
- The bats fell quiet for both teams in the fourth and fifth inning.
- In the top of the sixth, the Spartans loaded the bases and would score three on two walks and hit by pitch to lead 4-1.
- The Sabres threatened in the bottom of the seventh cutting their deficit to 4-3 on a two-run homerun to left field.
- Spartan Rylee Campbell would shut the Sabres down striking out the final batter of the game.
