AU bats rebound with sweep of Stars

The Aurora University Spartan softball team hosted Dominican University Saturday afternoon for a conference doubleheader matchup. It was Senior day at Bedrosian Stadium and the Spartans took both games from the Stars, winning game one 10-5 and game two 7-2.

Record: Aurora University 29-7 overall and 17-5 in the NACC; Dominican University 26-12 overall and 13-11 in the NACC.

How it happened
 GAME ONE 
- The Spartans scored twice in the first inning
- An Ashley Talaga single scored Jemma Fiehweg (Ashley advanced to second on the throw home) and then a Tyler Chambers double brought Ashley Talaga around to score shortly after.
- The Spartans added four more runs in the second inning powered by a Jemma Fiehweg double to left center and an Ashley Talaga two run homerun to left field.
- Dominican University fought back in the top half of the third inning scoring a pair of runs.
- Aurora responded quickly by adding another four runs of their own in the bottom half of the third inning with an RBI single by Shelby Linn and an RBI bunt by Faith Biggs.
- Taking advantage of an early error the Stars tallied two runs in the 5th inning.
- The Stars battled all the way to the end adding one last run in the 7th on a sacrifice fly.
- At the end of the day the high-powered Spartans offense was able to outlast the efforts of the Stars.

How it happened
GAME TWO
- The Spartans scored one in the first inning on an Ashley Talaga double that scored Josie Lytton.
- Following two singles by Delilah Aguirre and Shelby Linn, a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position. A groundout by Faith Biggs scored Delilah Aguirre in the second inning.
- The Stars scored one run in the top of both the 4th and 5th innings. This proved to be the Stars only runs of the contest.
- AU poured on five runs in the sixth inning.
- Singles by Tyler Chambers and Delilah Aguirre set up RBI singles by both Shelby Linn and Jordan Seyfried.
- Faith Biggs then reached on a bunt single and after a throwing error by the Stars pitcher advanced to second, while Emma Bachio (pinch running for Jordan Seyfried) advanced to third.
- A successful RBI single bunt by Josie Lytton and a wild pitch would close out the scoring for the Spartans.
- Rylee Campbell came in to relieve Madelyn Buske in the top of the 6th inning and threw two scoreless innings to end the game.
