The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released the 2011 Men's Division III All-Central Region Teams, with the Aurora University Spartans landing two players on the All-Region
The Spartans' success in 2011 on the field brought Third-Team honors for senior midfielder
Matt Houghtaylen (Somonauk, Ill./Somonauk HS) and junior forward
Xavier Carrillo (Tempe, Ariz./McClintock HS). Both student-athletes were named Northern Athletics Conference First-Team All-Conference following the 2011 season.
Houghtaylen led the Spartans as a captain playing a key midfield role for AU, while Carrillo led the Spartans' offense. Houghtaylen had five goals, one game-winning goal and one assist. Carrillo had a team-leading eight goals, five game-winning goals and three assists. Additionally, Houghtaylen was recognized by the NAC as a member of the All-Sportsmanship Team.
AU finished the 2011 season with a 10-9-1 overall record and was 8-3 in the NAC.
