AU men's soccer falls in another one-goal contest

A late goal gave Carleton College (Minn.) a 2-1 victory over Aurora University in a non-conference men's soccer match Friday afternoon on AU's Vago Field.

The Knights (1-0), tallied the game winner in the 79th minute when sophomore midfielder Will Corcoran scored off a pass from junior midfielder Alex Voorhees.

The Spartans (0-2) started out strong, with senior midfielder Tony Gutierrez scoring in the sixth minute off of a rebound from a shot put on goal by junior midfielder Colby Newquist.

Carleton knotted up the score in the 30th minute with a goal from senior forward Tim Willis, assisted by senior forward Miles Sibert. The teams battled in an evenly played match from there to set up Corcoran's decisive goal.

AU senior goalkeeper Nick Sloan had three saves in net for the Spartans.

The Spartans host Webster University on Monday, September 5 with game time set for 11:00 a.m. on Vago Field
