Spartan men win third straight NAC contest

AU defeated Concordia Chicago 4-0
Box Score The Aurora University men's soccer team won their third consecutive Northern Athletics Conference match
up 4-0 over Concordia University Chicago Tuesday afternoon on Vago Field.

The Spartans struck first in the 23rd minute as junior Anthony Parra continued his rampant scoring pace. AU sophomore forward Keion Joseph struck a shot off the post that ricocheted back to Parra who redirected the ball into an empty net with a diving header. The goal was Parra's 6th in the last three games and seventh on the season.

With 15 minutes to play in the first half Spartan senior forward Xavier Carrillo was dragged down in the box after beating Concordia goal keeper Jose Landa to the ball, giving AU a penalty kick. Carrillo stepped up to take the penalty but was it was stopped by Landa to keep the Spartan lead at 1-0.

Carrillo redeemed himself seven minutes later when he received a pass from freshman Alex Brunell and
buried the shot into the back of the net. The goal gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead in the match and Carrillo his sixth goal of the season.

The half finished with the Spartans up 2-0 and holding a 15-4 shot advantage over the Cougars.

AU picked up right where they left in the second-half as freshman Fabio Aiello scored his sixth goal of the season just 10 minutes into period on an assist from senior Colby Newquist. Aiello picked up the
ball just out side of the penalty box and slotted a low bending ball into the right hand side of the goal to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead.

The Spartans concluded the scoring for the game when sophomore Shane Toms redirected a long Ryan Murphy throw in to put AU up 4-0. The goal and assist marked both Toms' and Murphy's first career points as Spartans.

Senior keeper Ethan Cashen had two saves in net and improved his record to 5-3-1 overall while Landa dropped 0-2 overall. With the win the Spartans improved to 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the NAC. The loss drops Concordia to 1-9-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the NAC.

AU will be in action next when they travel to Monmouth College on Sunday, October 7 to face the Fighting Scots at 2:30 p.m.
