afternoon at Vago Field in a Northern Athletics Conference match up. The Falcons' high flying offense proved to be too much as they downed the Spartans by a scored of 45-31.
Concordia jumped out to a hot start scoring on their first two possession of the game to give them a 14-0 lead. The first score was set up by a 56 yard pass from wide receiver by Cody Johnson on a trick play to receiver Erik West. Falcon quarterback Austin Damaschke eventually completed a seven yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wenzelburger. The extra point was converted by David Gonzalez.
On the second possession Damaschke threw a 66 yard touchdown pass to Johnson just three plays into the drive. Gonzalez was good once again and the Falcons led 14-0.
AU answered on the very next drive as they were able to march down the field with a 15 play 75 yard drive of their own. The drive concluded with a three yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback

Fernando Albarran converted the extra point attempt to cut the Concordia lead to 14-7.
The Spartan defense forced a three and out by Concordia to give the ball back to their offense to start the second quarter. AU made quick work of the possession as they picked up 54 yards in just 3 plays. Culminating the drive with a 32 yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback

Michael Beasley-Hart. Albarran split the uprights to tie the game up at 14-14.
The Falcons answered right back though. A 13 yard pass from Damaschke to Wenzelburger gave the Falcons first and goal on the one yard line. Damaschke punched the ball into the end zone himself on the quarterback sneak. Gonzalez converted his third extra point of the game making the score 21-14 Concordia.
AU responded with a 9 play 49 yard drive to put them in field goal range. The Spartans brought on Albarran on for a 30 yard field
goal attempt. Albarran drilled home the attempt to cut the Concordia lead to 21-17.
Unfortunately for the Spartans Damaschke was just too hot-handed. The next Falcon drive lasted just two plays as Damaschke threw a 66 yard touchdown pass to West. Gonzalez remained perfect with his fourth extra point of the day to make the score 28-17.
AU was forced to punt on their next possession. Once again, Damaschke went deep down the field completing an 85 yard touchdown pass to Wenzelberger only 3 plays into the drive. Gonzalez knocked home his fifth extra point to make the Falcon lead 35-17.
The Spartans were able to conclude the half with one more touchdown. Koerner completed a 23 yard pass to freshman wide receiver
Lorenzo Williams to give AU first and 10 on the Falcon 15 yard line. Koerner found Williams once again from 12 yards out for the touchdown. Albarran buried the extra point. However, AU still trailed 35-24 entering halftime.
Concordia looked to pick up right where they left off as they opened the third quarter with a touchdown scoring drive. The Falcons went 60 yards in 11 plays before Damaschke found Wenzelberger once again from 11 yards out for the touchdown.
Gonzalez converted the extra point to put Concordia up 42-24.
AU looked to answer on the next drive but a Bevell pass was intercepted to turn give the ball back to Concordia on the AU 34 yard line. The Spartan defense did well to keep the Falcons out of the end zone with the shortened field and forced Concordia to settle for a 33 yard field goal from Gonzalez.
The two teams played the field position game for the rest of the their quarter as the remainder of the drives ended with a punt.
AU managed to find the end zone at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Bevell completed a pass to Beasley-Hart who made a nifty move to make his man miss along the sideline before getting into the end zone for a 16 yard score. Albarran converted another extra point to cut the lead to 45-31.
Neither team was able to put together a scoring drive for the remainder of the quarter. The game came to a close with a final score of 45-31.
On the day Bevell was 24-42 for 219 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, Koerner was 6-7 for 107 yards with two touchdowns to go along with 31 yards rushing. For Concorida Damaschke was 26-37 for 390 yards with five touchdowns and picked up a team leading 31 yards rushing with one touchdown. On the ground senior
Brandon Trujillo led the Spartans with 73 yards on 16 carries, while Beasley-Hart had six catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns and Powell also had six catches for 82 yards and one touchdown. For the Flacons Wenzelberger had eight catches for 148 yards with three touchdowns and West had three catches for 122 yards with one touchdown.
The loss drops the Spartans 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the NAC. The win brings Concordia to 6-3 overall and 5-1 in the NAC. The final game for the Spartans in 2012 will be
next Saturday, November 10 when they travel to Rockford College. The game is scheduled to kick-off at noon in Rockford, Ill.
