Spartans and Falcons play to 1-1 tie in men's soccer

Box Score The Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin visited Aurora University on Saturday for a men's soccer conference match-up. The two teams played to a 1-1 tie through double overtime.

The opening half saw pressure by both teams although it seemed that Aurora had the

advantage.  They out-shot the Falcons 7-4 but the score remained tied at 0-0 heading into the second half.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, Concordia's Keegan Van Dusseldorp opened the scoring.  Van Dusseldorp was assisted by Jacob Pope on the games first score.

AU trailed Concordia until the 38 minute mark of the second half when Spartan senior Anthony Parra gained a step on the defense and chipped it past the goalkeeper to tie the game.

Each team had scoring chances in the final minutes of play but could not tally a score.

The overtime periods seemed uneventful until about 20 seconds remained in the second overtime.  Concordia found the back of the net and began to celebrate but the play was deemed offsides, canceling the jubilation by the visitors.  The teams failed to score before time expired and the match resulted in a tie.

AU is now 7-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Next action for the Spartan men's soccer team comes on Tuesday, October 16 when they travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Milwaukee, Wis.
