Spartans knock off BlueJays 29-2

Rosiek had 15 points on the day (12 assists with three goals)
Box Score Aurora University men's lacrosse defeated the visiting BlueJays of Elmhurst College 29-2 in a Midwest Lacrosse Conference contest Wednesday afternoon on Vago Field.

The Spartans opened up the scoring when sophomore Danny Loyall fired a rocket into the top left corner just 1:15 in the game.

Spartans junior Jack Barry kept up the pace as he was able to work free and score of his own just 1:05 later to give AU a 2-0 lead.

A pair of goals just 25 seconds apart from AU freshman Alex Gebben and Loyall gave the Spartans a commanding 4-0 lead. Junior Garret Rosiek assisted on the Gebben goal, his first of what would be a record setting day as he recorded 12 assists.

The Blue Jays let go of decent look at the 9:07 mark but Holka was able to handle the rip easily to preserve the Spartans four goal lead.

AU junior Pat Diorka was able to tally his second goal of the year as he found the back of the net at the
8:48 mark of the quarter to push the AU lead to five.

For about a two minute stretch AU's Spencer Fuqua became a one man wall forcing several turnovers by Blue Jay attackers.

Capitalizing on Fuqua's stellar defense junior Zachary Olsen was able to find the back of the net with 3:40 to play in the quarter.

After assisting on Olsen's previous goal Rosiek was able to let go of a rip that also found the net just six seconds later. Rosiek kept up his great play as he was able to find Barry for his second goal of the day and a 9-0 AU lead.

Elmhurst was finally able to get on the board with 13 minutes to play in the second quarter to make the score 9-1 in favor of Aurora.

Following the Elmhurst goal, AU tallied goals by Loyall and Gebben with two each as well as one from Diorka, Rosiek, Ryan Merrit, Justin Bose, Nolan Miller, and Ryan Stow.

At the half AU held a 19-1 advantage over the Blue Jays. Rosiek concluded the first half with two goals and nine assists.

The second half saw much of the same from the Spartans as AU maintained control of the contest with all dressed Spartans seeing game action.

Rosiek started the scoring off, his third and final goal of the day to collect the hat trick. He would get an assist on three more third quarter goals.

When the final horn sounded, 13 different Spartans scored goals and six Spartans handed out assists.

AU is now 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the MLC. Next action for the Spartan men's lacrosse team comes on Saturday, April 6 when they travel to the College of Mount St. Joseph. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. in Cincinnati, Ohio.
