Men's Basketball - NACC Tournament Preview

The Aurora University men's basketball team will enter the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference tournament for the 11th time, marking an appearance in every year of the NACC's existence. The Spartans finished the 2016-2017 regular season with a 17-8 overall record and 15-5 in the NACC to earn the second seed. In doing so, AU will host the winner of #3 Concordia University Wisconsin and #6 Dominican University on Lancaster Court in Thornton Gymnasium on Friday, February 24, with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
 
Match-up -

The Spartan's host the semi-final round of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference on Friday, February 24, 2016. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium against the winner of the first round game between No. 3 Concordia Wisconsin and No. 6 Dominican University.

The Spartans have a 2-0 record vs CUW this season with a 101-94 on Lancaster Court in the first meeting and a 75-73 win at CUW in the second match up.

AU is 1-1 against Dominican this season with a 96-60 loss at Dominican in the first meeting and the Spartans won 90-85 in the second meeting on Lancaster Court. 

All-Time NACC Championship History –
 - This year marks the second season of a six-team tournament bracket, prior to last season were eight-team brackets.
 - AU has made the NACC Tournament every season and holds a record of 17-6.
 - AU's has won four NACC Tournament titles going back to the start of the league in 2006-2007 (2006-2007, 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2012-2013).
 - Benedictine University is the defending NACC Tournament champions.
 - In addition to AU, five other teams have claimed one NACC Tournament title, Concordia Wisconsin (2014-2015), Marian University (2013-2014), Edgewood College (2011-2012), Benedictine University (2010-2011, 2015-2016) and Lakeland College (2007-2008).
 
About the Spartans –
 - Junior Marcus Myers is the Spartans leading scorer averaging 16.7 points per game while shooting 49.8-percent from the field and he is averaging 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
 - Sophomore Ty Carlson is averaging 15.7 points per game while shooting 46.9-percent from the field, 41.2-percent from three-point range and averaging 6.3 rebounds per game.
 - Sophomore Max Vickers is averaging 14.6 points per game while shooting 50.4-percent from the field and averages 6.2 rebounds per game.
 - AU enters as the No. 1 or No. 2 seed for the seventh time.

About NACC Opponents –
 - Top seeded Benedictine University is the favorite to win the tournament as they enter with 21-4 record and 19-1 in the NACC while being ranked #11 in the D3hoops.com poll. They are making their 10th appearance in the NACC Tournament and are 8-7 in their previous appearances.
- Concordia Wisconsin is making their ninth appearance in the NACC tournament with a record of 6-7.
- Dominican is also making their fifth appearance and hold a 4-4 record.  

Up Next for the Spartans –
With a victory on Friday night, the Spartans would play in the NACC Tournament Final for the eighth time. AU would take on the winner of the contest between No. 1 Benedictine University and either No. 4 Wisconsin Lutheran College or No. 5 Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The location of the game will be determined by the highest remaining seed hosting.
