Spartan women come up just short against Edgewood

Box Score The Spartans of Aurora University women hosted the Eagles of Edgewood College Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletic Conference match-up. After Aurora found themselves down by as many as 13
points early on, they clawed back to within two with plenty of time left in the second half but could not overcome Edgewood and the Spartans fell 57-44.

Although the Spartans found themselves down early, they kept the game close by answering the Eagles shot for shot. This kept Aurora within six points of the lead for the first eight minutes of the game. With 12:00 left in the opening half the score was 12-6 in favor of the visiting Eagles.

Small offensive runs by the Eagles helped them to find themselves up by 13 with 4:38 remaining in the half. This was their largest lead of the half. The Spartans started to gain their composure late in the half as they chipped away at the Edgewood lead.

A buzzer-beating three-pointer from AU sophomore guard Joree Green helped the Spartans cut away at the lead. They went into halftime trailing by nine points with a score of  27-18.
The Spartans continued to play well to start off the second half. Aurora's good defense held Edgewood to just one field goal for the first six minutes of the half. The Spartans still found themselves down by nine with 13:46 remaining because they sent the Eagles to the free throw line early and often.

Aurora's next field goal, a three-pointer by junior guard Ania Dylewicz, was the beginning of a 9-2 AU run. Thanks to this offensive explosion, the Edgewood lead was cut to two points (37-35) with 11:05 remaining in the half.

Aurora continued to play well and they found themselves down by only four with 4:35 left in the game. The Eagles would prove to much for the host's and hold off the Spartan's attempts to take the lead. Over the next 3:25 of play, the Eagles went on a 10-0 scoring run to increase their lead to 14 with just 1:10 left on the game-clock.

The Eagles' defense overcame the Spartans and allowed them only two points in the last five minutes of play. Edgewood went on to win by a score of 57-44.

With the loss, Aurora moves on to 2-19 on the season and 1-13 in the NAC. Their next action comes at home against the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering on Tuesday, February 7 in Thornton Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
